Hello Stanford Golf Fans,
I can't believe it is the first week of December, how quickly time passes. It has been almost eight weeks since our home tournament, which coincidentally was our last competition of the fall season. We have been following "off-season" rules since that time, limiting us to only two-hours of skill instruction per week with the players. It has been a productive off-season thus far including an increased strength and conditioning program, as well as skill development clinics twice a week at the Siebel Varsity Training Complex. To fill their free time, the team has been going to watch other Stanford teams compete and most recently cheered on the Stanford Football Game during the Pac-12 Championship Game!
In November, we signed three outstanding recruits for the Fall of 2013.
- Casey Danielson will be making her way to Stanford from Osceola, WI. Casey comes from a family of golfers; her older sister is a senior on the Univ. of Wisconsin team and her older brother is a freshman at the Univ. of Illinois where he is currently ranked #76 in the country!
- Jisoo Keel lives in Coquitlam, British Columbia. She competes on the Canadian National Team and is currently the #1 ranked junior player in Canada. She won a Canadian Women's Professional event in 2011 and competed in the 2012 US Women's Open and the 2012 Canadian Women's Open.
- Quirine Eijkenboom is a native of Munich, Germany. She is the German Girls Champion and also a member of the German National Team. To my knowledge, Quirine will be the first German national to compete for Stanford University women's golf! She is currently ranked #28 in the World Golf Rankings.
We couldn't be more pleased with our incoming class and look forward to welcoming them to campus. However, we have a lot of work to do before their arrival and for the time being our focus is on the current players and their game development. The whole team will be heading home for the holidays, for some much needed rest and practice, before the spring season. We will be back and hit the ground running in early January.
I just want to take this opportunity to THANK all of you here at the golf course for being so friendly and supportive of the ladies on the team. There is a true sense of Cardinal Pride and we cherish the opportunity to be a part of it; you inspire us to be great. Thank you.
Happy Holidays to you and your family!
